Maddie Zimmerman began her quest to be a Stronger, Faster Soccer Player on December 31st, 2013, looking to end 2013 on a great note. With only a little over a month of training, Maddie retested her fitness tests last week and came away with improvements she thought it would take months to see. With an increase of 2 inches in her jumping, adding an additional minute to her plank hold, and taking a tenth off her 40 yard sprint time, Maddie has been able to use her increased athleticism as a Freshman at Long Beach Poly High School.
After having an injury filled fall club season with Greater Long Beach Fury, Maddie was determined to gain the needed strength and speed in her legs to make her a contender at the Forward position. She then joined the Champion’s Quest Soccer Academy after coming to a training session with friend Emily Knous. Together they train Saturday mornings on their own and focus their energy on goals of being on the Varsity team together next year when Emily becomes a Freshman at Long Beach Poly. Beyond high school, Maddie is looking to take soccer to the next level in college.
Maddie is astonished by her increase in athleticism in one month’s time of training and has even scored a goal in her 1st minute on the pitch as a Poly Jackrabbit. Scoring a goal with her left foot off her teammate’s throw-in. Off the pitch, Maddie has all As and 1 B+ in the highly academic PACE program at Long Beach Poly. She is very humble about her progress thus far and is excited to push her athleticism in the off-season as she prepares for showcases in front of the college coaches.
“I am so proud of Maddie’s accomplishments to gain inches on her jumps and take tenths of her sprints. For the short time she has been here, I am happy to see her taking ownership of her training and coming in on her own. She even comes in on Saturdays, which is a lot of commitment for a high school girl with a social agenda. We are excited to have her join our Academy program here and help her achieve her goals.” – Coach Brittany
